Gilding is the process of applying metal leaf to a surface. This contemporary approach to an ancient process allows for makers from every background to explore a painterly approach to using metal leaf in their compositions. Learn the technical aspects of this gilding technique in this one-day class! This workshop will explore gilding with metal leaf and loose pigment, as well as a patina technique, on different material surfaces provided by the instructor: paper, wood, & stone. Students are also encouraged to bring additional papers and any other materials they are curious about gilding. This is an all-levels workshop, and materials will be provided by the instructor.

All materials are included, but participants are welcome to bring other materials they are interested in experimenting with the technique on—fabrics, papers, photographs, etc.
